Moral Mondays IllinoisMany individuals and organizations, secular and religious alike, take to the streets to speak out and even risk arrests in this series of actions in order to demand morality in the Illinois state budget. Our budget should reflect the needs of all Illinoisans, not simply the interests of the rich.

On December 10, 2014, Chicagoans put Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez on Trial for racist prosecution practices. The People's Lobby, SOUL and Organizing Catholics for Justice joined to demand that Anita Alvarez take action to reduce the number of people with non-violent convictions in Cook County Jail. For several months these organizations had been calling changes to her office’s prosecution and bail seeking practices that could drastically reduce the number of first time, non-violent offenders incarcerated in Cook County Jail. Despite several meetings with Alvarez, direct actions at her office and the submission of a Freedom of Information Act request, our Cook County State's Attorney refused to take any leadership on changing Cook County’s racist prosecution practices.
